[ARCHIVED] Flash floods close Gamebird Road; Parts to be reopened on Monday

Gamebird Road from Highway 160 to Homestead Road remains closed Monday morning.

County Public Works plans to open Gamebird from Malibou Avenue to Homestead Road by Monday afternoon, with the remainder to be opened for traffic by the end of the week. Reconstruction of the Gamebird channel and flood clean-up is estimated to continue for the next month.

Fox Road from Gamebird to the Fireworks Safety Site will be closed indefinitely while road and storm drain apparatuses are repaired. Flood waters from the east side of the Spring Mountain Raceway flowed through the raceway, overtopped Highway 160, and flowed down Gamebird Road to Homestead Road, where they slowed enough to disperse on a large area of private property to the south and west of the Homestead/Gamebird intersection.

Flood waters reached as far west as Pahrump Valley Boulevard and as far south as Thousandaire Boulevard. When the flood waters crossed Homestead, they were moving at a slow enough pace so as not to cause immediate damage to any of the roadways in the area.
